Tabu born as Tabassum Hashmi Khan on November 4th, 1970 in Hyderabad Andhra Pradesh, India is one of the finest actresses the Indian cinema has ever seen. Her natural acting talents have won her multiple awards including two National Film Awards.
Tabu was born to Jamal Hashmi and Rizwana, a school teacher. Tabu has an elder sister Farha Naaz, an ex-Bollywood actress. Her parents got divorced. Tabu pursued her high school studies from St. Anns High School and later moved to Mumbai in 1983. She studied at St. Xavier's College for two years.
Tabu began her movie debut in 1985 with "Hum Naujawan". The movie failed to click at the box office and Tabu disappeared into thin air until 1991 in which year Tabu made her second innings with a Tollywood movie, "Coolie No 1" starring in a lead role opposite Venkatesh. The movie became a big blockbuster hit and Tabu the wonderful actress continued her streak of successes in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Hindi movies.
Tabu was critically hailed and acclaimed by critics in movies like "Maachis" (1996), "Virasat" (1997), "Hu Tu Tu" (1999), "Astitva" (2000), "Filhaal" (2002), "Cheeni Kum" {2007} that brought her awards galore. After watching "Chandni Bar" {2001), critics have sang paeans to her acting talents saying, "Her work is flawless and the impact her character makes on the minds of the viewer is also due to a tailor-made role". Another critic noted, "If there is one actress who can carry a film on her shoulders, it is Tabu." "Chandni Bar" also won her the second award from the National Film Awards.
Her terrifying villainous performance in "Maqbool" {2003} based on Shakespeare's Macbeth has made the critics awe-struck who praised her to the skies saying, "Tabu shines in a dark role. The most versatile actress in Bollywood takes to villainy like a second nature. She is menacing and seductive, but keeps an innocent look on her face, making her even viler. The way Tabu delivers her taunts simply perfect. Her gradual insanity is heart-wrenching and her final outburst is easily the highlight of the film." Despite her intense performance, "Maqbool" failed at the box office. Tabu also gave a critically acclaimed performance in Mira Nair's Hollywood film, "The Namesake" {2007}. Tabu, the hot beautiful actress has endeared herself to millions of fans through her performances in movies like "Kadhal Desam" and "Kala Pani" {both 1995}, "Ninne Pelladatha" {1996}, "Chachi 420" {1998}, "Hera Pheri" {2000} and several other movies.
