Born on June 9th, 1985 to bollywood actor Anil Kapoor and his wife Sunitha; Sonam Kapoor and her two siblings Rhea and Harshwardhan grew up in a filmy ambience. Besides inheriting the acting talents from her father Anil Kapoor, Sonam still studied theater arts and Chinese history at the United World College of East Asia. Academically, Sonam holds a graduate degree in Political Science & Economics from the Bombay University.

Cute Sonam Kapoor who is well-trained in Indian classical and Latin dance forms plunged into films as an apprentice to mega-hits filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Her first assignment as assistant to Sanjay Leela Bhansali was on the sets of 'Black' in 2005. After learning the craft of filmmaking, Sonam Kapoor made her debut in films with 'Saawariya' in 2007 directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansli. The movie also had another debutante in Ranbir Kapoor, son of star-couple Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh.
